“We who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”

Hebrews 6:18-19
Sometimes your comfortable life is hit by a sudden squall. A storm brews up out of nowhere. Bad news stuns your heart. Concern for a loved one reshapes your priorities. Betrayal of a trusted friend leaves an aching wound. A dream is shattered.

Is it possible to rise above feelings of bitterness and depression? Can you keep from losing control? Yes, when you are controlled and held by a hope that cannot fail. Your anchor, though unseen, is your grip on all that is eternal, secured by the Word of God whose understanding of you is infinitely personal. His love for you is without end; His power to work in you is limitless.

And if that isn’t enough, God gives you this added encouragement: You are being held by Christ Himself! He is holding your anchor in God’s presence this very moment. While it is true that your troubles are real, your hope in Christ is even more real. He promises to never leave us or forsake us (see Hebrews 13:5). Your feelings of hanging on by a thread are replaced by knowing you’re firmly held in the palm of His hand.
