“The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.”

Psalm 103:19
Have you sung the line, “His word my hope secures” in the “Amazing Grace” hymn? Ponder these further thoughts by hymn writer John Newton:

“The government is upon [Christ’s] shoulders; and though He is concealed by a veil … so that [we] can perceive only the means, instruments, and contingencies by which He works, and therefore think He does nothing—yet in reality, He does all, according to His own counsel and pleasure.

“If we consider the heavens, the work of His fingers, the moon and the stars, … the more we search, the more we shall be confirmed that these are but a portion of His ways. But He calls them all by their names, upholds them by His power; and without His continual energy, they would rush into confusion or sink into nothing. … The thrones and powers in the world of light … are all dependent upon His power and obedient to His command. … The powers of darkness are likewise under His subjection and control. … He holds them all in a chain, … and whatever He permits them to do …  is subservient in accomplishing His designs.”
