“Then Philip… heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ Philip asked. ‘How can I,’ he said, ‘unless someone explains it to me?’ Then Philip… told him the good news about Jesus.”

Acts 8: 30-31, 35
Philip grabbed his chance. He obeyed the angel’s voice (v. 26) and didn’t ask a multitude of questions first. He just obeyed. In that obedience, God had a purpose for him.
Notice a couple of things. First, Philip was spiritually ready. He had been with Jesus through the years of His earthly ministry, learning and growing along the way. And now, like the other disciples, he was taking the Great Commission seriously (Matthew 28:20). He recognized the Isaiah passage being read by the man sitting in his chariot. Also, God brought along a hungry heart at just the right time and in just the right place while Philip was on hand. Furthermore, Philip was excited to teach someone—even a complete stranger—all about Jesus.
How many times have you missed an opportunity to share Jesus with someone? Are you spiritually ready for the occasion the Lord has prepared for you? God’s appointed time will match up with your readied heart. Grab the chance to share the good news of Jesus Christ, knowing that He has already gone before you.
