“Then it was said among the nations, ‘The LORD has done great things for them.’ The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”

Psalm 126:2-3
Often we meet news of change warily. Maybe you’re getting a new boss and wonder what this supervisor will be like. Maybe you’re going to move and are concerned about all the adjustments. But think of the relief you feel when news comes that a health condition was not as bad as you feared, when a financial need has been met, or when a relationship has been salvaged. Some news brings pure joy, like news of a birth, a wedding, a war’s end, or a fair and just outcome.

The angel announced Jesus’ birth as an occasion of utter joy. A baby had been born, but not just any baby. This was the Son of God! A war had indeed been won—though skirmishes continue, Jesus will be victorious over sin and death. And God’s justice will be served; every sin not atoned for will be punished, and every wrong will be righted.

The changes brought by Jesus’ advent were monumental. God becoming human and living among us is world-changing good news. Don’t let this familiar story from centuries ago bring indifference. It is a cause for much joy!
