“And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.”

Romans 8:27
Many a believer has wondered what the point is of praying if we still are confined to God’s will. We are content to fence in God’s will and actions to meet our own expectations. But heaven forbid our finite expectations would not be met! Friends, we are making a serious mistake when we buy into the lie that began back in the Garden of Eden: that God’s will—which has been decreed in all eternity—imprisons us.

At such times we surely must look like little toddlers who think they know better than mom and dad. Do we forget that God is perfect? His will and His ways are without flaw. Our will and our ways, which are tainted by sin, invariably focus on what we perceive as good for us.

Thankfully, God isn’t limited to our desires for our lives. Weak and sinful, we often don’t know what we should pray for. However, we have the Holy Spirit, who Christ called our Helper. The Holy Spirit intercedes for us according to God’s will. We can trust that God’s will for our lives is good and perfect, even especially when it is not the life we wanted.
