“Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:39
The Bible overflows with verses that speak of God’s love. Lamentations 3:22-23 tells us His love shines new every morning. Psalm 103:11-12 describes God’s limitless love and mercy. But the passage that affects me most is Romans 8.
First, God’s love is for us, and through it He chooses us. If God loved us so much that He gave His Son so that we might become His children, there is nothing that can stand against it. Second, God’s love is sovereign and perfect in design, plan, and outcome. He chose and adopted us, preserves us, and sustains us, all through the power of His love. It began in eternity past and stretches into an eternal future with Him. Finally, God’s love is unstoppable. It’s not just that God’s love is greater than our love of sin or self; it’s greater than all our enemies and any created thing that outdoes us in strength. None of these can separate us from God’s love.
Ponder Romans 8 when you’re feeling unlovable. When the weariness of life weighs you down, know that God is always up to something, and it’s always good.
