“When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female and blessed them. And when they were created, he called them ‘man.’”

Genesis 5:1-2
God is so committed to loving and saving His people that even after He destroyed an entire wicked generation in the great flood, He renewed His blessing to Noah and his family (Genesis 9:1). Adam and Eve were created perfect and were blessed by God, yet they fell into sin. Chaos and violence followed, provoking God’s judgment. But after the flood, the Lord gave Noah the same blessing and mandate, to increase and fill the earth. And even though sin had entered the world and Noah and his offspring were not perfect, He promised to be their God. He would provide for and protect them. He even made a covenant—a promise—guaranteed in the sign of the rainbow, that He would never again destroy the earth with a flood (Genesis 9:8-17).

Think of the times you’ve sinned or failed in some way. Even so, the image of God remains in us. We are still His special creation, unlike any other living thing. No sin of ours can change that. And for us there is still the covenant promise that when we are His in Christ, He will never forsake us.
