“And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness from the man from heaven.”

1 Corinthians 15:49
God’s goodness and truth are evidenced in beauty, inspiring awe. Beauty is the primary experience that unites our imaginations with our faith, when Scripture’s detailed word pictures help us imagine glory beyond the earthly. God told Abraham of his descendants by the vast, brilliant number of stars in the sky. Ezekiel was shown a foretaste of our own resurrection by the dry bones taking on flesh. Peter, James, and John saw a glimpse of Jesus glorified on the mount of transfiguration. All beautiful!

The ultimate beauty God has for us is His Son Jesus, the “Word made flesh.” In Him, the unseen of our faith becomes tangible; our hope is made secure.

Christian art forever changed after Jesus. Mankind now beholds with their eyes, through historical eyewitnesses, the One who is both God and man, the One who suffered to save us.

The drama of Christ’s passion in paintings and other visual art presents the lasting, living testimony of the gospel with every new view. That gospel testimony can find and bring lost ones to new life in Jesus.
