“And gave him as head over all things, to the church, which is his body the fullness of him who fills all in all.”

Ephesians 1:2
A wise art teacher advised us students to always simplify and never attempt “to carve the Civil War on the head of a pin.”

As believers, our art—no matter its size or complexity—will inevitably carry the transcendent and limitless power of the Holy Spirit, sparked by Jesus who is at the center of anything we create. God cultivates in us inexhaustible curiosity born from His own infinite vault of ideas. Imaginations of believing artists are attuned to His communication with us; art becomes worship.

By His wisdom and love, God prepares hearts to receive Him any way He chooses. Artists are blessed to be His “visual theologians” whether we make images of the cross or of hurricanes, of intricate molecules or of war, of dragons or of daisies. We cannot always expect a positive response, but we are compelled to persevere and grow in our insights and techniques, to gently and respectfully “give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15).

Always draw from Christ, the One who first drew you.
