“For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him.”

Psalm 103:11
David’s description of the love of God should fill our hearts with wonder. His love is compared to the vast expanse of the heavens, love which transcends the highest mountain peaks. You and I know that the heavens extend further than we can ever comprehend. The Apostle Paul likewise spoke of “the love of Christ… that surpasses knowledge” (Ephesians 3:19). God’s love for us should evoke in us a sense of awe and confidence.
But, sadly, we often fail to experience this because we’re looking for love in the wrong places. We may interpret God’s love toward us by our circumstances. If things do not go well, we are quick to doubt His love for us.
Yet David draws our attention away from our circumstances by connecting the love of God to the reality that our sins have been forgiven (Psalm 103:10). Don’t look for signs of God’s love in your circumstances which will swing wildly from joyful to painful. Instead, stand in awe of our unchanging Savior, who took our sin and revealed the greatness of His love for us. Look to Jesus! [Nathan, Fallbrook, CA; first year student]
