“The plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.”

Psalm 33:11
I don’t know what season of life you’re in. I can’t see into your heart. I can’t see its beginning or its end. But I can tell you that according to the poem in Ecclesiastes 3 and according to what Scripture tells us, the season that you’re in is not random.

What you’re experiencing in your life right now is not arbitrary. In fact, nothing “just happens” to us, though it often looks that way. Instead, the assurance we are given in the Bible is that everything is directed to us for our good. “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

Everything that comes to us is consecrated to bring about the plan that He had for us from the very beginning. It comes to us at the right time, in the right measure, and in exactly the right way. It’s why someone like Joseph in the book of Genesis could say to his brothers who had abused him and sold him into slavery, “God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives” (50:20).

Insight

Father, help us to trust with all our hearts that, as the psalmist says, “my times are in your hands” (31:15). Amen
