“If you remain silent at this time … deliverance … will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?”

Esther 4:14
We know that God works in mysterious ways, no matter how perilous the times for His people. The book of Esther (which reads like a best seller!) deals with God’s deliverance of His people from foreign domination and the threat of total extinction.

The young Jewish girl Esther became Queen of the Persian Empire. Her cousin Mordecai learned of a plot to “annihilate all the Jews—young and old” (3:13). In God’s providence, Esther would be in position to prevent this from happening. God had placed her there to have some of the most important one-on-one meetings ever. Mordecai urged her to inform the king of this evil plot, though doing so would put her life at risk. Esther’s response was, “I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish” (4:16). The king listened to Esther, the plot was exposed, justice was served, and the Jews were saved.

Even today it can be risky to be a person of faith. But we know Jesus is Lord and that we’ve been appointed God’s ambassadors, “for such a time as this.”
