“The LORD said to him, ‘Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD?’”

Exodus 4:11
Sometimes those of us who know the Lord and have had a relationship with Him for some time try to make Him fit into our own understanding. Doing so, we may wish to ignore things about Him we find disagreeable. This has certainly happened often when disappointing, awful circumstances befall us. Surely a loving God would not have allowed ____ to happen.

That’s why today’s Exodus passage is so startling. The Lord takes credit for disabilities. Our culture generally views disability as something negative. But God does not. Why? Because “the issue is not Moses’ eloquence but the Lord’s presence” (Robert Rayburn, 2005). The old King James highlights this truth, translating the Lord’s response this way: “I will be with your mouth” (v. 12). So the issue is never the disability; it’s that God has designed the disability perfectly in His plan.

God delights to transform us to be holy as He is holy. This comes through faith in Jesus. When you trust in Him, you believe He is with not only your mouth, but with you for all eternity.
