“Why do you complain to him that he answers none of man’s words? For God does speak—now one way, now another—though man may not perceive it.”

Job 33:13-14
In the Old Testament, God often spoke through prophets. One of them, Ezekiel, was a prophet to the Jews during a time of military invasions, chaos, and destruction. In Ezekiel 36 we read nine times, “This is what the sovereign LORD says.” Clearly, the Lord spoke in some audible way to His people through prophets like Ezekiel.

The writer of Hebrews tells us that in “these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son,” Jesus. The Bible contains all we need for life, but the day of the prophet coming around declaring, “Thus says the Lord” is over. Praise God the words of Jesus remain with us forever!

God still speaks today when His still, small voice breaks into our thoughts and our consciences. You may encounter it, as I have, when you are doing something you know is wrong, but you rationalize it, saying that surely God would understand. When the words “THIS IS WRONG” appear in your mind, you can be thankful that the Lord is speaking clearly to you. He is leading you not into temptation, but delivering you from evil.
