“Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.”

2 Timothy 2:1
The call to serve others might mean helping in the church nursery, leading a group, or preparing meals for shut-ins. It could include anything God calls us to do —church-related or not. It might involve caring for a sick loved one. Are you thinking, I could never do that?

Years ago, a friend cared for her father-in-law at home during his terminal illness. I told her I didn’t think I could ever do that. “Never say never,” she answered. “When the Lord calls you to a God-sized task, He gives God-sized grace just when you need it.”

Twenty years later, I cared for my mother-in-law at home as she battled several illnesses. I struggled when her condition deteriorated. And then a few years later, I cared for my husband to the end of his fight with cancer. Daily, I knew God’s provision of grace. The only way I could fulfill these calls was in total dependence on Him, knowing I was serving in the grace of Christ.

Look back on the difficult tasks you’ve faced and see that the Lord did, indeed, give you God-sized grace for them.
