“The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”

Zephaniah 3:17
One of the most delightful things we can read in Scripture about God is that He sings. He loves music, songs, and harmonies. We each have a voice with which to sing—even if we sing silently or in our hearts. Zephaniah tells us that He sings over us. Jesus sang a hymn with His disciples on the night of His arrest (Mark 14:26). Let it sink in: God sings!

Reading God’s Word makes my own heart sing. Does He sing a soft lullaby like a mother with a newborn baby? Isaiah 66:13 says, “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.” Or maybe He sounds like the bass singer in a men’s gospel quartet. Does He harmonize with angels? When we arrive in heaven one day, we will find, I’m sure, that our earthly notions of God’s singing don’t begin to compare with the marvel that it really is.

No matter what His voice sounds like, He is singing over us even now, pouring out His love for us. And when we place our faith in Jesus, “there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents” (Luke 15:10).
