"Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst.’”

John 4:13-14
Jesus often used images from nature to illustrate a lesson. In John 4 He compared eternal salvation to living water, telling the woman at the well that He offered something which must have sounded inconceivable to her. What kind of water would permanently quench thirst? She was puzzled. And she was amazed because He revealed that He knew her shameful past, including her five different husbands. She wondered, “Could this be the Christ?” (4:29)

Filled with awe, she abandoned her water jar and rushed back to town to tell everyone there about Jesus. Those people dashed out to the well and encountered the Lord for themselves.

They said, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world” (4:42).

One lonely, scorned, rejected woman was restored, renewed, and reoriented because of the refreshing Living Water of Jesus Christ. This is the same Savior who refreshes us today along our dry and sometimes treacherous paths of life.
