“For your Maker is your husband—the LORD Almighty is his name—the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.”

Isaiah 54:5
My earthly husband is no longer with me. When he was alive, he knew me well. He always understood when I felt hurt or wounded and needed a little sympathy. When something wonderful happened (like when our beloved Detroit Tigers won), we celebrated like kids. In my husband’s absence, I am comforted to remember that the Lord Almighty is my “husband,” and He knows me thoroughly. A plaque hanging in my living room says, “Jesus knows me, this I love.”

God knows our joys and sorrows. He knows the deep aches of our hearts, especially when our loved ones die. He even lists our tears on His scroll (Psalm 56:8). To think that God knows us so well that He records our tears!

In Psalm 139 He explains the depth and breadth of His knowledge of us: He knit each of us together in our mother’s womb (v. 13); before a word is on our tongue, He knows it (v. 4); all our days are written in His book before one of them comes to be (v. 16). If He knows the number of hairs on our heads (Matthew 10:30), He also knows our hearts as well.
