“It teaches us to ... live … godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

Titus 2:12-13
Poet Emily Dickinson said, “Hope is the thing with feathers.” She was thinking of hope being like a small, strong-willed bird who sings its song no matter what. Our hope is Jesus Christ, not small but mighty. In Him we have hope that never gives up, always perseveres, and sings its song even through the fiercest storm.

While we hope and wait for His return, we are to live godly lives, not dominated by our sin and rebellion. Remember He is still in control; He is redeeming our hard situations. “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we possess” (Hebrews 10:23).

Jesus could come again at any minute. When He returns, we won’t worry about our possessions or about chores left undone. We won’t look back. We must “be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks … the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15). We must keep our eyes on Him through life’s struggles, knowing that “suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope” (Romans 5:3-4). And hope does not disappoint!
