“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

Matthew 7:7
Gene, my brother in Christ, told his fellow inmates how he ended up prison. “We had nothing when I was a kid. My father never gave us anything. Mom worked two jobs, but it was never enough. The only way I could get something was to take it.”

Praise God that through the Lord’s redeeming, renewing work in Gene’s life, he has learned a better way.

We have a generous and giving Father. He is not stingy. He is gracious and kind, not withholding the good things that we need. He gives abundantly to His children. And He loves us enough to answer our requests in the way He knows is best.

Not only does God want to give us good things, but He also wants to have a personal relationship with us. For that to happen, we must seek and knock—in other words, communicate with Him in prayer.

Our good Father invites us to bring our needs and requests to Him. We learn, as my friend Gene did, that rather than taking things and living in discontent, we receive from Him immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine (see Ephesians 3:20).
