“‘My food,’ said Jesus, ‘is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.’”

John 4:34
I’ve read that if we are feeling hunger pangs, we can focus intently on something else to make the pain go away. Spiritual hunger works a bit like that. If we ignore it and focus on something else, it diminishes or may even dry up completely. When we are devouring the junk food that our phones and computers place before us, our hunger for the Lord fades. We may forget what God revealed to us that morning in our devotional time or last Sunday in the sermon.

God teaches us that “man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD” (Deuteronomy 8:3). The more we dig into God’s Word, the more it satisfies our longings. It increases our hunger for Him. We relish verses like John 3:16, Psalm 23, and Ephesians 2:8. As we grow, we crave learning more of the deep truths in the Bible. The writer of Hebrews draws the distinction between spiritual “milk” (basic Christian truths) and “meat,” or deeper wisdom (see 5:12-13).

God feeds you with the Word which has literally come to life through Jesus.
