“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.”

Proverbs 19:21
It’s not easy to do so in a world that constantly competes for my attention, but I want to give God all of me. While I may be pulled in many directions, I come back to the needs of my family and friends. No one can parent my child like I can. No one can love my spouse as well as I do. No one can have exactly the impact for God’s kingdom that I have. Did you ever think of that? Giving yourself to God is reflected in how you give yourself to others.
When we’re distracted, frustrated, or angry, it seems we have very little to give to those around us. Our tank is empty. It is precisely then that the second phrase of Proverbs 19:21 brings great comfort. Our plans may be undermined by weakness and sin, but the Lord’s purpose prevails. Even when the plans in our hearts falter, God’s do not.
We have the most wonderful display of His prevailing purposes in the Christmas story. He gave His only Son—His very all—so that we’d forever know His gift beyond measure.
The Gift came wrapped in swaddling cloths; the Gift came for us.
