“Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

John 4:14
What was the best Christmas gift you ever received? Did it come when you were a kid—a bicycle or a special toy? Maybe it was something you received when you were grown—a new television or a trip somewhere. Probably it was something you deeply desired and had long awaited. You imagined how having it would change your life.

By now, whatever that most precious gift was, it has been outgrown, lost, used up, broken, or forgotten. From the moment you tore the bow off the package, it possessed no ability to truly change your life. It may have given temporary excitement, but it certainly did not give life.

The gift of life came to us from heaven’s realm, from the God of all creation Himself. This gift was wrapped in swaddling cloths rather than in dazzling paper. Many years later the woman at the well in John 4 saw Him with her own eyes. She begged Him for the “living water” of which He spoke, knowing it was the gift that would change her life.

Your greatest Christmas gift ever was Jesus Christ who entered our world as a tiny baby.
