“Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.”

Romans 13:5
Fans are quick to blame the officials for bad calls, claiming there has been tampering with a game or favoring one team over another. Unfortunately, this can happen. Officials are supposed to enforce the rules evenly and maintain order. They are given authority to make decisions and judgment calls about the keeping or breaking of the game rules. While they might not be perfect, they help ensure that the game continues smoothly.

God has appointed government officials to be in authority over us. As Christians we can set a godly example to live for God by following the laws that fit within God’s moral standards.

Players continue to play the game according to the rules even if the sports officials are suspect. Goodness knows we’ve had crooked government officials since almost the beginning of time. When Jesus walked on this earth, it was surely as bad then as it is now. He rendered to Caesar what was Caesar’s (see Mark 12:17), and then followed the will of His heavenly Father. Submit your life to the One who died to win eternal life for you.
