“When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, ‘Moses, Moses!’”

Exodus 3:4
Moses was not exactly looking for a divine encounter. Years earlier, he’d been on the run after murdering an Egyptian taskmaster. He married Zipporah and now was working for his father-in-law as a shepherd—a far cry from life as an adopted son in Pharaoh’s household. There’s no written account of Moses seeking God. But God was seeking him and gave him a specific job: go to Pharaoh, persuade him, and bring God’s people out of Egypt.

The thought terrified him because he was aware of the powerful figure he was being asked to confront. He’d lived in that kingdom and knew its strength firsthand. His dialogue with God was extensive (3:5.4:18), and God promised to go with him and provide for him. Unable to produce any more objections, Moses finally accepted the commission.

When God calls on us to do large or small tasks— to help someone in need, to take on a responsibility, to serve Him in a new way—we often put up objections, too. But the Lord may have a wonderfully defining moment for you. And He promises to never leave you or forsake you in it.
