“Whoever has my commands and keeps them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”

John 14:21
As a child I’d ride my bike to the dime store nearby and buy gifts for my parents. They were never much, but my parents knew those trinkets showed my love for them.

How do we show our love to Jesus? “If you love me, keep my commands” (John 14:15). We prove our love for Jesus by obeying Him.

One man explained it this way: “I spent seven years of my life devoting my free time to playing the saxophone. It’s not that I was musically talented or loved the saxophone or music. I did it because my father, who died when I was six years old, loved music. The band sign-up sheet in 5th grade had a list of all different instruments, and I recall not having any idea which one to choose. My only interest was based on the fact that my father loved music. So I asked my mother, ‘Mom, what was Dad’s favorite instrument?’ ‘Saxophone,’ she replied. Even though he was dead, I loved my dad and I wanted to please him. So I found out what he liked, and I did it. Loving God is like that. We must find out what God likes, and we must do it.”
