“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

John 14:27
Jesus was making disturbing predictions. Since the disciples knew He spoke the truth, they feared. Whatever Jesus meant, they were certain the hours ahead would be terrible.

But Jesus comforted them. He gave three truths to overcome fear. First, that He could be trusted. “Trust in God; trust also in me.” Second, that He is in charge. It’s as if Jesus is saying, “Remember when you were so afraid of the storm? Even the winds and the waves obey me.” Third, that our future is in His hands. “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

“Fear he is a liar./ He will take your breath,/ Stop you in your steps./ Fear he is a liar./ He will rob your rest,/ Steal your happiness./ Cast your fear in the fire,/ ‘Cause fear he is a liar” (Zach Williams, 2016).

What are your fears? Are you willing to trust Jesus, to take Him at His Word?
