“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; … He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him.”

Daniel 2:20, 22
The blind man went to the Siloam pool and washed off the mud which Jesus had put on his eyes. Suddenly, he could see! He spoke of it freely, eventually declaring that if Jesus were not from God, He surely wouldn’t have been able to restore his sight. In the presence of Jesus, blind eyes become corridors of light.

C.S. Lewis’ life changed dramatically when he met, fell in love with, and married Joy Gresham. But she suffered greatly with bone cancer. After her death, he shared a letter he’d received that recounted a bus accident in which 24 military cadets died. The writer asked, “Where was God? Why didn’t He stop it? Does God want us to suffer?” The grieving Lewis told him that suffering is a gift of God which builds us into people who can love and be loved. He said, “Pain is God’s megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”

It’s not that God doesn’t care when we suffer. But He does have a plan for our suffering, one that will reveal His glory. Whatever your darkness, your blind eyes can become corridors of Jesus’ light.
