“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17
We live in times of upheaval, uncertainty, and frustration. On our own we lack the resources and strength to have peace, to walk in faith, and to live out our calling in the world. When we feel ill-equipped to handle the sufferings and struggles of this life, God promises to give us the equipment we need. He wants you and me to be “equipped for every good work.” How does this happen?

Paul tells Timothy that God breathed out from His own mouth the words of the Scriptures that give us what we need for life and godliness. Every time we read and hear God’s Word, we’re receiving that which is eternally valuable and powerful for our lives. We’re instructed, confronted about our sin, and trained for living a life of faith. By way of the Bible, God equips us for good works in the world.

If the Word of God is His fountain of blessing, are we drinking from this fountain? Or are we languishing, parched because we are trying desperately to quench our thirst elsewhere? The world can bring us temporal joys, but the Word of God brings us Jesus.
