“Do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them.”

Luke 12:29-30
We have a food problem in this world. I’m not referring to gluttony (though some of us may struggle with that). The food we eat daily is made for this world and doesn’t last beyond this world. We grow anxious about food, as we do with clothing and other necessities, even though such anxiety does us no good. It can be hard to rest in the fact that if God cares for birds and for flowers, He certainly cares for us more. We let worry consume us.

What should we do instead? Resist behaving like the rest of the world, a world which craves food but not the God who provides it. Jesus told us to seek after Him and His kingdom—that which is beyond the temporal desires of this world—because that is where we find the true feast.

Does that mean we will feast here and now? Not necessarily. We may still feel lack even as God provides for our material needs. Friends, we can live as those made for His kingdom. You will not be anxious to fill your belly if you look to feast with the King. “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (v. 34).
