“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.”

1 Corinthians 11:1
My nextdoor neighbors love to compete in bike races. They go to several races each year and place in the top ten among hundreds or even thousands of other cyclists. They say one of the keys to success in bike racing is to save energy by drafting behind a strong cyclist who will break the wind and set the pace. This allows the lead cyclist to take the brunt of the resistance from the wind, and it gives the following cyclist a pace to maintain.

Jesus is the One we Christians “draft behind.” We follow Him and find that He gives us the strength to carry on in the race of life. He has already accomplished the most difficult work for us: paying the penalty for our sins. If we attempt to shoulder the weight of sin on our own, we will be exhausted and crushed. Christ has done what we could not do.

When we keep in step with the Holy Spirit, we live in a way that others will clearly see Jesus in us. He freely gives us grace and mercy to empower us each day. Let’s allow the joy of Christ’s perfect work on our behalf be evident in our lives.
