“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Matthew 6:33-34
It’s no secret that we live in a world of stress and anxiety. People all around us carry immense burdens. Yet no human being in history ever carried burdens like those Jesus bore. If anyone had an excuse to fret and be anxious, it was He.

But was He? Jesus knew what lay ahead. He knew that He would carry the sin of the world on the cross. And yet He could say, “Tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” In the presence of Jesus, people sensed something they lacked. Those seeking God found peace in the presence of Christ. He was entirely without anxiety or doubts. His trust in the Father was complete.

Is it possible for us to know that kind of contentment? According to Jesus, we can start by daily refocusing our attention on God’s kingdom and pursuing His righteousness. Yet we cannot do any of this without His help. Only by His power do our hearts resonate with kingdom priorities as we are transformed into His image. As you grow in contentment through Jesus, your worries will subside.
