“Stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

1 Corinthians 15:58
You might remember the names of your high school teachers. But do you recall the school custodian who cleaned the bathrooms? Some jobs, no matter how critical, often go unnoticed. This is true in the business world, in church ministry, in families, and in caregiving.

Perhaps you’re familiar with how your work feels harder when you’re not noticed or thanked for it. Being unappreciated can pack a double punch for caregivers. The loved one we’re caring for may be too ill or in too much pain to communicate gratitude. And visitors who come are so focused on the patient that the caregiver seems to melt into the background. The caregiver begins to hear a small voice deep inside whining, “What about me?”

When I felt unnoticed as a caregiver, I reminded myself that I was serving Jesus, not just my mother-in-law or my husband. Whether we feed the hungry, extend kindness to a stranger, clothe the naked, or care for the sick, Jesus receives it all as service to Him. Be encouraged; your loving heavenly Father notices everything.
