“He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.”

Psalm 23:2-3a
The Bible tells us that if we want to love our life and see good days, we must seek peace and pursue it (see Psalm 34:12). This grows harder for us with each passing decade. Studies show we are more stressed, anxious, and depressed than ever despite the fact that we enjoy prosperity which our grandparents couldn’t even have dreamed of.

Each year in the college class I teach, I give my students a challenge: turn off the cell phones and internet for the first and last waking hours of the day for one month. After a couple of weeks of struggle, those who take the challenge say, “I’m sleeping better,” “I wake up happier,” “I’m having deeper conversations,” or “I have a new desire to pray.” Removing the stream of information and entertainment for just two hours a day creates some space to make way for peace.

We have a better source for peace: Jesus, our Good Shepherd. He will give us rest unlike any we could ever find elsewhere, and it lasts more than two hours a day. Pursue His peace daily, and see how He quiets your soul.
