You have probably heard Matthew 28:19 quoted to show that believers have an obligation to share the gospel. It says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” The question is, how do ordinary people like us go about doing that?
Evangelists use all kinds of techniques. Some communicate believing in Jesus by passing out gospel tracts or trinkets. Some knock on doors, or preach in parks and busy festivals. Others simply try to bring Jesus into conversation. Whatever the method, we must never forget the most important part in evangelism: the relationship.
When Jesus shared the truth of His kingdom with others, He did it through everyday encounters and relationships … while eating dinner, while drinking water at the well, while simply walking down the street. Jesus built trust with those He was interacting with before laying out the gospel. Genuine human interaction—right here at home or far away—is the best way to start showing others who Jesus is.
