“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

Hebrews 13:8
How many ink dots do you think you could fit on a square of toilet paper? You’d be surprised! I tried once and got to 3,600. Now imagine that each of those dots signifies 1,000 years so that this single square actually represents 3.6 million years. If you did the same to all of the other squares on the roll, you still wouldn’t reach “eternity”! While millions of dots represent billions of years in the universe, that doesn’t come close to explaining the length of eternity.

Our finite minds simply cannot fathom how something can have no beginning and no end. The concept of eternity alone shows us the vast difference between us, the creatures, and God, the Creator. And yet, God “has set eternity in the human heart” (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

For us, life is fleeting. For the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day (see 2 Peter 3:8). But even in our short lifetime, this brings comfort because our Lord is patient. Though long waiting times in our lives seem like an eternity, we know God is not slow in keeping His promises.
