“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”

2 Corinthians 4:16
Is your daily inward renewal greater than your outward decay? At my age, when one thing after another seems to require medical attention, that would be good news! The entire span of our lives is a gradual (or sometimes immediate) “wasting away.” So we ought to all be interested in knowing more about this renewal Paul speaks of.

While Paul probably wrestled with the physical difficulties of life, he undoubtedly also was worn out from persecution. He kept an “eternal perspective” and urges us to do the same. Even in times of stress and pressure, we can take heart with our eyes focused on Jesus and what awaits us in heaven.

I remember reading an interesting comment from several Christians who had been set free after years of forced labor under Stalin’s dictatorship. Once they were safe and established elsewhere, they said, “Our physical suffering was nothing compared to the suffering you experience here in the west. Yours is a battle for your mind.”

Have the mind of Christ. In His grace and love, He will see you through.
