“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17
Just think of it: the Bible is God’s very breath. The words are His, and they have power to form our lives, teaching, correcting, and training us in righteous living. His words equip us for every good work. Like a joint and socket fit together, we’re made to fit any good work the Lord brings to us. Eugene Peterson paraphrases this in The Message (2002): “Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.”

A woman found life futile and meaningless. Wading through books and philosophies, she searched for satisfaction. One day she read the gospel of John in the Bible. She later said, “It shone and glowed with truth, and my whole being responded to it. The words that finally convinced me were, ‘To this end was I born and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Everyone that is of the truth heareth my voice’ (18:37). So I listened to that voice, heard the truth, and found my Savior.”

Each one of us can pray: Lord, as you speak to me today, shape and equip me. Amen.
