“Then Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear.’”

Luke 12:22
When things have been going well for you, have you ever felt like you are waiting for the other shoe to drop? In the background of your happiness, a hint of dread appears. A trace of distrust in God’s goodness begins to grow; fear causes you to think things are just too good to be true. You worry that if you let down your guard, everything is sure to be soon in tatters.

Obviously, this is a terribly skewed and mistaken idea of how the Lord deals with us. If our Father numbers our hairs, remembers each of our tears, and sacrifices His Son to secure our place in heaven, we can be sure He will not crush us. He Himself told us to not worry about our life, and to remember that “if you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him” (Luke 11:13).

Instead of dwelling on all the ways that life can derail, let’s focus on how God has sustained us through it. He holds us and cares for us, and He will not cast us out in our time of need.
