“Do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord. … I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.”

2 Timothy 1:8, 12
It’s tempting as a believer to shrink back into the shadows and avoid the difficulties that come with sharing the gospel. The person you speak to may be indifferent or belligerent. You may be mocked or marginalized. You might stumble over your words.

But sometimes a person hears you tell the truth of the gospel, and it is a step in the process of their salvation. Paul urges Timothy and us to not be ashamed “but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God” (v. 8). We have good news to deliver: that God calls people to Himself and mercifully saves them by His grace rather than by their works. Paul is so captivated by the greatness of God’s saving plan that he gladly preaches, willingly suffers, and humbly entrusts himself to his God.

The person next to you who naturally may be an adversary, or the person you think to be an unlikely candidate for grace, needs to hear the gospel. You’ve been entrusted with the best news ever—the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Stand in the light and declare the hope you have!
