“Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.”

Psalm 119:133
Have you had a change in your career path at some point in your life? Perhaps you have changed careers many times. At age 59, while I was heading the Bible department at a local Christian high school, I was challenged by a fellow teacher to pursue a long-held desire to become a counselor. After prayerful consideration, I enrolled a few months later in that field of study and headed off in the direction of counseling.

Think about the “career change” Matthew experienced in the Bible. He was well-situated in his position as a tax collector under the Roman government. Then came the call of Jesus on his life, beckoning him—a seemingly unlikely candidate to be a follower of Jesus—to become one of His disciples. Matthew records it without elaboration: “Jesus … saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow me,’ he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him” (9:9).

When you accept the invitation to love and follow Jesus, you can be assured that He will be faithful to lead you in every decision of your life.
