“After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb.”

Revelation 7:9
Young children are taught to differentiate things and combine things. Odd numbers are different than even numbers, reds go with reds, squares go with squares. Even into adulthood we operate with patterns governing our choices, whether we recognize it or not. We choose clothing, houses, cars, and entertainment following after the patterns we see in others.
Unfortunately, we have not always appreciated differences. A faulty calculation (that “same” is good and “different” is bad) has taken root in many of our hearts. This view is a joy killer. God has made each one of us in His image. The incomprehensible variations of the people of this world reflect or hint at the magnificence of our Creator. Humanity is an expression of the grandeur of God, not a display of hierarchy.
Perhaps heaven will look something like the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, with people from every nation and in a stunning array of colors and sizes. We’ll all be widely different, yet joined together in the most important thing: Jesus Christ!
