“Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Psalm 37:4
“It’s not unusual for a Christian to seek after the Lord out of a sense of obligation. We read and study the Bible, we go to church, we pray, we try to act right because… well, that’s just what Christians do! I found that once I realized these things were a delight—something I wanted to do—my relationship with God changed.

“This fourth verse of David’s psalm is not saying the Lord will grant us finer cars, bigger houses, or more money if we will just delight in Him. But if those things are your desires, your delight will not go beyond them, especially not when the car breaks down, when the house needs repair, or when the money runs out. If I truly delight in Jesus Christ, then He will give me the desire of my heart: more of Him!”

Take great comfort knowing that “the LORD loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones” (37:28), even when you are painfully aware of how unjustly and unfaithfully you’ve lived. He is the One who will make your righteousness shine like the bright dawning sun of a new day (see v. 6).
