“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son. … For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

John 3:16-17
In 1996 a popular sports magazine quoted Earl Woods exalting his son, Tiger, with these words: “My son will impact the world more than anyone who has ever lived. … He is the Chosen One. … The world is just starting to get a taste of his power.” Ten years later, Mr. Woods had died and Tiger Woods would shortly thereafter see his life spiral into a series of scandals, losses, and trouble.

The real Chosen One, Jesus Christ, came into this world in humility but with the power of heaven’s hosts behind him. Though a baby, the Creator of all humanity lay wrapped and placed in a manger—profound magnificence that would utterly vanquish sin and death in His Father’s good timing. The real Chosen One could have come into this world to outclass anyone’s wealth, brilliance, or even sporting performance. He came instead in love and compassion.

Jesus desired that all would know the joy of salvation through Him. As you celebrate Christmas, remember why He came—not to show off to the world how powerful He was, but to sacrifice His perfect life for us.
