“An angel… appeared to Joseph…. ‘Get up, … take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.’”

Matthew 2:13
I read about a family who picnicked under the shade of a large tree in the San Isabel National Forest in Colorado  many years ago. Before leaving, they took a family photo. Once they had the photo developed, they saw in the picture a mountain lion in that tree, peering right down at them. Were they ever glad no harm came to them that day!

God is always coming down to cover and protect us, though we often are unaware of it. As Herod searched for Jesus’ family, God moved to protect them. Scripture reminds us, “You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself” (Exodus 19:4). “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms” (Deuteronomy 33:27a). “I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings” (Psalm 57:1b). “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge” (Psalm 91:4a).

Live confidently. You are covered. You may not see Him, but God is protecting you from a multitude of dangers you never even worry about.
