"When Asa heard these words... he took courage. He removed the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin... He repaired the altar of the LORD..."
(2 CHRONICLES 15:8)

2 Chronicles 15:1-9
Can you imagine what a stir there’d be today if a political leader decided to enact radical moral reform in our society? Doing so seems impossible, doesn’t it? It probably looked about as impossible in the days of Judah’s King Asa. He wanted to do what was right, but the people were not on board. Many were happy worshipping idols and ignoring the Lord.

God spoke to Asa through the prophet Azariah, telling him, “The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you.” Azariah assured Asa that God was on his side. The Lord would help him accomplish the seemingly impossible. Encouraged by this message, Asa initiated reforms in his kingdom. He rid the nation of idols to false gods and restored and purified the worship of the Lord in Jerusalem. In response, “large numbers had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the Lord his God was with
him (v. 9).”

Doing the Lord’s work can be lonely business. But He never leaves us alone. May that give you courage to do what is right.
