“You are standing here … to enter into a covenant with the LORD your God, a covenant the LORD is making with you this day and sealing with an oath, to confirm you … as his people, that he may be your God.”

Deuteronomy 29:12-13
Do you tend to focus on what you don’t have instead of what you do have? It’s easy to look at what we lack and miss all that God is providing while we wait. The Israelites wandered the desert for 40 years, waiting to enter the Promised Land and to enter into a covenant with God. We read often in the book of Exodus of their regret of luxuries lost as they were far from home.

Still God gave them everything they needed—daily food and more. While they wandered, their physical needs were met in miraculous ways. For instance, their feet, after countless miles, never once swelled up. Their clothing and sandals never wore out! When we are in our own desert, we can miss God’s provision. Like the Israelites, we need to be reminded that God provides for us as we wait.

The people of Israel were making their way to a physical land. You and I as Christians are sojourning to an eternal land, one that will be the full and total satisfaction of every possible need and desire we could have. Our King leads us there and is with us each step of the way.
