“Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all people.”Luke 2:29-31
In Him, Simeon sees God’s salvation for Israel and beyond to the Gentiles! All the promises of God are fulfilled in this tiny person. The Spirit gives Simeon the spiritual eyes to see the new life He will bring to the world through this child.
Simeon experienced the end of his waiting; now he could die in peace. There is a deep longing in all of us to finish well and enter God’s promised rest. We also long to know that evil will be vanquished and that wrongs will be set aright. When we look into the face of Jesus, we are given eyes of faith to see the One who is sovereign and victorious over all. Our Savior has come!
Our hearts long for peace and rest, Lord Jesus. Fulfill your will in us today and give us faith to see you victorious.
