“Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’”

Acts 2:38
Trevin Wax wrote an article in 2015 for The Gospel Coalition on what he considers the “missing component” in modern worship: confession. How often do you go to church and take time to confess your sin to God? Some may say every Sunday, but probably many more of us won’t be able to remember when we set time aside for confession in worship.

Yet this is one of the most significant practices we could incorporate. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Even after we are saved, our fleshly bodies and minds go on sinning. We are gradually conforming to the likeness of Christ, though we are still human and still dwell in sinful bodies.

Confession needs to take place in the life of every believer because through it we turn from our sin. When we confess, we are cleansed and purified. Jesus calls us to repentance, and it is with a repentant, contrite heart that we must always approach the throne of God. We confess our sins to Christ, the sacrificial Lamb, who is ready to wipe away our sin and remember it no more. All we need to do is ask.
