“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

Colossians 2:6-7
If Jesus Christ is on the throne of your life and your heart overflows with gratitude for what He has done for you, the result will be that you are firmly established in your faith. You’ll be able to distinguish between Christian doctrine and human philosophies which parade as religious teachings. From the 1st century to our day, Christian discipleship stands as a bulwark against false teaching. At its foundation is the truth that Jesus Christ is Lord of life.

Paul says that in Christ we are “rooted” (grounded through nourishment), “built up” (through edification), and “established” (made reliable and trustworthy). With the Holy Spirit in us, we have available His love, wisdom, sensitivity, and confidence.

Of course, even the most grounded of us can find ourselves in turmoil over all that wars to take our minds captive. The world’s temptations vie for a place on the throne of our lives. The pull to succumb to culture’s allures is strong.

But Jesus Christ keeps us spiritually rooted. Truly, we are complete in Him.
